Sharia Court sentences 60-year-old rapist to death by stoning

A Sharia court in Kano has sentenced Mati Abdu, a 60-year-old man, to death by stoning for raping a minor.

Khadi Ibrahim Sarki-Yola, the presiding judge of the Sharia court, gave the pronouncement after finding Abdu guilty of the offence.

Abdu, who hails from Farsa village in Tsanyawa Local Government area of Kano State, allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl under a tree in a broad daylight at Farsa village in 2019.

As gathered by Daily Times, Sarki-Yola sentenced Abdu based on Section 127(b) of the Kano State Shariah Penal Code Law 2000.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Badariya Bala-Shehu said the convict committed the offence around 1 pm.

Abdu had pleaded guilty.
