Second Niger Bridge to be delivered in 2022 – Julius Berger

The contractor handling the construction of the Second Niger Bridge, Julius Berger Construction Company has disclosed that with the present determination of the Federal Government, the bridge will be delivered in February 2022. The Project Director of the company, Fredrick Wieser, who stated this on Tuesday when Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, paid an inspection visit to the site in Onitsha, added that the construction would be in three different phases. Engr. Wieser noted that the Federal Government had made advance payment of 15 percent, which was N30 billion mobilisation. He said: “The Bridge is 1.6 km while the access road from Asaba end is 3.3 km and 7km from Anambra end. “Right now, we are doing foundation work in the river which will be 50 meters deep. The pilling work in the river is 15 meters above water level to allow free flow of ship”. He, however, pointed that with the present determination of the federal government, the Project would be delivered in February 28th, 2022. Speaking earlier, Governor Willie Obiano, expressed satisfaction with the standard of work which is ongoing at the second Niger Bridge. He expressed confidence that the Federal Government under President Buhari would deliver the bridge as scheduled. The Governor highlighted that the second Niger Bridge when completed would be a good potential to the people of the South East.
