RIVERS RE-RUN ELECTIONS: INEC VOWS TO PUNISH PERPETRATORS OF VIOLENCE, MALPRACTICES

All those involved in the violence and cases of malpractices that rocked the Rivers state legislative re-run elections will not go unpunished. Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu in a statement read by the commission as its official response to the election says the commission is proud of the exemplary conduct of some of its staff who worked under difficult conditions but adds that those found wanting will face the wrath of the Commission.

According to the Chairman of the Nations’ Election Management body, there were 70 deliberate incidents of deliberate interference with the electoral process that came in different forms but involve violence and intimidation. He adds that the Commission is working with all stakeholders involved in providing security for the electoral process to fish out all perpetrators of violence including those in uniform.

He discloses that the Commission will also do a house cleaning to ensure members of its staff either permanent or Adhoc who are involved also face the wrath of the law.
