Rivers PDP blasts APC over call on Sekibo to vacate Senate seat

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has lashed out at the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, saying that the party displayed lack of knowledge of the basic tenet of law when it called on Senator George Sekibo to vacate the senate seat for Rivers East, following the judgement of the state election petition Tribunal in favour of Chief Andrew Uchendu.

The PDP State chairman, Chief Felix Obuah said in a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Jerry Needam, and released in Port Harcourt Tuesday, that the call was a pointer to a case of ignorance of the law by the leaders of the APC in the State.

Chief Obuah observed that the ruling of the election petitions tribunal which was a court of first instance, was still subject of appeal, and could not be effected until all the options available to the litigants to critically examine the merits and demerits of the ruling were exhausted.

He expressed optimism that what he described as ‘uninformed ruling’ would not stand the test of the appellate court and added that “the APC which thrive in falsehood and only on unfertile soil of propaganda should do well to make out time to read the relevant portions of the electoral law and the Nigerian constitution to save themselves of an embarrassing situation.”

The PDP Chairman further recalled “the indecent utterances and vile vituperations of the APC when they lost at the tribunal after the 2015 general elections,” the statement read.
