Rivers guber race: Three persons feared dead

…as low voters’ turnout recorded
Voting is now going on in Rivers State, with some level of violence already recorded. Unconfirmed reports from Ahoada West local government area of Rivers state revealed that three persons have been gunned down by unknown gunmen in Akinnima community in the area, thereby, disrupting the voting process.

Also in Buguma in Asori Toru local government, throwing of dynamite and sporadic shooting by yet to be identified attackers have forced voters to stay indoors while those who were at the polling stations already to vote took to their heels to safety, also temporarily stalling voting there.

Daily Times correspondent in Rivers State reports that there is general voters’ apathy in Rivers state. All the voting stations so far visited recorded very low turnout of voters.

This is attributed to lack of confidence in the electoral system and fear of eruption of political violence that characterised Saturday February 23, Presidential and National Assembly elections, as revealed by many eligible voters who chose to stay indoors.

However in most of the polling stations visited in Port Harcourt, votings were going on peacefully in spite of the poor turnout of voters, whereas in some places like Ogbunnabali axis of the town, electoral materials were yet to arrive.
