Resolve all salary agitations, SGF tells board members

The Acting Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr. (Mrs.) Habiba Lawal has called on the governing board of Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission to ensure that they resolve all agitations from public servants on salaries and wages soonest.

Lawal stated this on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the board members of the Commission.

According to a statement signed by Mohammed T. K. Nakorji, Assistant Director (Press), Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Lawal who said that she was directed by President Buhari to discharge the function, said that the inauguration of the board is a prerequisite for the Commission to discharge its mandate.

The Ag. SGF told the Board Members that their appointment came as a result of vacancies created by the virtue of the Federal Government’s approval for the dissolution of Boards of Federal Government Parastatals, Agencies and Government-Owned Companies in 2015, and the urgent need to constitute the Commission with full complements of its members to enable it carry on with its mandate in accordance with Section 2 of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission Act, 2004.

Addressing the board members, Lawal said, that “the role of the Commission is very vital to having a steady polity, especially, with agitations going on in the country now over Salaries and Wages among the Public Service, Private Sectors and other various groups, “it is my believe that you will bring your experience to bear on the Commission and make it succeed,” she said.
The Ag. SGF reiterated once again that the Change mantra of Buhari Administration must not be compromised. She urged them to have the interest and the general well-being of the country as topmost priority in the discharge of their official duties.

In their acceptance speech, the Chairman of the Board, High Chief R. O. Egbule ,pledged the allegiance of members of the Board to do their best to move the economy forward.

He reminded his colleagues that the assignment should not be based on monetary rewards “as the government is facing economic challenges”.

He thanked the President for given them the opportunity to serve this great nation.

This appointment is for a term of five years which is renewable at the discretion of Mr. President, for another term of 5 years.

Members of the board include, Ekpo Nta, Esq (full time Commissioner), Alhaji Dauda Yahaya (full time Commissioner), Hon. Garba Musa Gulma (full time Commissioner).

Others are Barr. Victoria Nnenna Chukwuani (part time Commissioner), Mr. Geoffery Yilleng (part time Commissioner), Chief E. O. Wole Iro-Aye (part time Commissioner) and Ahmed Mahmud Gumel (part time Commissioner).

Still on the board are Perm. Sec. (Estab.), OHCSF (member), Perm. Sec. Fed. Min. of Lab. & Prod. (member), Comrade Isa Aremu (member) and Mr. Chuma Nwankwo (Member).
