Reps summon telcos over mass sack, tax evasion, others

The House of Representatives has summoned the management of MTN, Glo, Airtel, Etisalat and Intels to appear on today, Wednesday over the massive job losses in the telecoms sector.
Daily Times gathered that the five companies are expected to respond to “queries on their failure to remit to government coffers, actual taxes as a result of their activities in Nigeria”.
According to Fijabi, the latest summon is coming on the heels of failure of the CEOs of the companies to honour previous invitations.
Fijabi warned that the committee would not accept representatives of the CEOs because such persons cannot provide satisfactory explanations, and will not take further snub lightly.
It will be recalled that in April, MTN disengaged 280 of its employees in Nigeria which include some 200 permanent employees and about 80 contract staff across various cadres, ranging from new graduates to senior managers.
