REPS QUERY FAILURE TO PROVIDE METERS TO THE PUBLIC

Meanwhile the House of Representatives has resolved to mandate it’s Committees on Power to interface with the Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Agency distribution companies among others to investigate the non provision of meters for consumers. A motion on the need to stop the exploitation of electricity consumers by the distribution companies moved by Representative Garba Ibrahim Mohammed observes that the issue is becoming fraudulent.

The motion notes that the non provision of meters for electricity consumers is killing most of them as they are forced to pay estimated bills even for electricity they never consumed. Serious intervention is needed in dealing with what indeed has become an avenue for the distribution companies to extort money from consumers.

The matter is more serious in the states where communities go for months without electricity and still be threatened with all sorts of bills and using all kinds of intimidating methods.
