Police nab 15 women over dumped lifeless baby

About 15 women were reportedly arrested by the police yesterday in Anambra as a result of recovery of a lifeless new born baby at No. 16 Okolie Street, Nkutanku- East Niger Layout in Ogbaru local council area.

The baby was said to have been dumped in the wee hours by unidentified mother.

When newsmen visited the area, it was observed that the entire area was apparently deserted by residents to avert further arrests.

A police source said the arrest of the suspects, including spinsters, two nursing mothers and one aged woman, was to enable the police carry out medical laboratory tests, aimed at detecting the true mother of the baby.

“The women were subjected to serious interrogation by the Investigation Police Officer (IPO) at the Okpoko Police Division in a bid to unveil who might have been involved in the barbaric act,” the source said.

Reacting, the Okpoko Divisional Police Officer, CSP I. Jauro, confirmed the incident, saying that nine persons were arrested in connection with the incident.
