Police move to ban tinted glasses, check hidden plate numbers

The Nigeria Police in a move to curb imposters, impersonators, who takes advantage of having their vehicles tinted and covering of their plate numbers to defraud the public and commit other heinous crimes, have taken a stand to ban and arrest offenders.
“The Plateau State Police Command has observed with dismay a negative trend in recent times where some individuals, politicians, government functionaries, among others cover their plate vehicle number while driving on the highway and is also rampantly abused by some misguided youths.
“Some people are also in the habit of using vehicles with tinted glasses without any authorization from the Police.
This was communicated through a press statement signed by the Plateau Police spokesman, DSP Tyopev Mathias and a copy made available to our correspondent in Jos on Friday, the Police said, the trend pose security threats especially at check points as kidnappers, armed bandits and other criminals can disguise using the above antics to beat security at any point.
The statement stated that as from Monday, adequate measures will be taken in ensuring that the directives are adhered to.
“The Command shall from next week take adequate measures in ensuring that the directives are complied with.
“The Police hereby warn members of the public to desist from such acts and advice that under no circumstances should people cover their vehicle number plates or use tinted glasses on their vehicles without authorization”, the statement read.
