Police in Uromi Investigate Gang Attacks and Missing Persons Case
The police in Uromi, the administrative center of Esan North East Local Government Area in Edo State, are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Christian Esene.

The investigation has expanded to include a series of alleged attacks on the family of Marcel Esene, Christian’s cousin. These attacks have been linked to Joe Saba, a notorious figure in the community known for his involvement in occult practices. Saba is accused of luring young individuals with promises of overseas travel, only to later demand exorbitant fees as compensation from them. Reports indicate that he coerced Marcel Esene into taking an oath of loyalty during their association.
Eyewitness accounts describe a violent assault on the Esene family’s residence on Ubiaja Road, Uromi. Armed with dangerous weapons, including daggers and machetes, the assailants brutally attacked family members and issued threats against Marcel, alleging that he owed a debt to Saba.
As a result of the violent encounter, several family members sustained injuries and required medical treatment. The family now lives in fear of subsequent attacks, as they believe the assailants may return to inflict further harm.
Paulina Esene, Marcel’s mother, has reported that the invaders threatened to escalate their violence unless Marcel paid his debt, which they claim is the consequence of violating an agreement with Saba. She emphasized that this was the second attack on their home and placed blame squarely on Saba, alleging that he deceived her son into traveling abroad.
A particular concern for Paulina is the apparent knowledge the attackers had of their new location, raising fears about their ability to locate the family at any time. Additionally, she revealed that Christian Esene, who had introduced Marcel to Saba, has been missing since 2019 under mysterious circumstances.
In light of these developments, police have advised the Esene family to remain out of public view to safeguard against potential future attacks while the investigation remains ongoing.
