Lagos Airport Police Arrest Suspect over Alleged N48.5m Social Media Scam

The Airport Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Precious Onudhona, over an alleged romance scam said to have defrauded victims of N48.5 million, about $35,000.

Police say the suspect, a native of Delta State, was picked up on February 2, 2026, following actionable intelligence, while attempting to board a flight from Lagos to Asaba.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Mohammed Adeola, preliminary investigations show that Onudhona allegedly joined a fraud syndicate in 2023, operating romance-related scams on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

Investigators allege that the group lured unsuspecting victims with fake identities and emotional narratives designed to win trust before demanding money.

Police further revealed that the suspect allegedly posed online as “Travis Kevin,” a white American medical doctor, and went as far as creating a fake banking domain to display fictitious account balances.

He reportedly used the scheme to convince victims to send funds, claiming the money was needed for feeding and medical supplies after he allegedly sustained injuries in the line of duty, with requests sometimes linked to cryptocurrency transactions.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, has ordered a full-scale investigation aimed at ensuring justice and tracking down other members of the syndicate.

She warned that the aviation environment remains a highly sensitive security corridor and will not be allowed to become a haven for criminal operations.

Police say the suspect will be handed over to the Interpol section for further investigation and prosecution.
