Plateau group laud Buhari for clinching Appeal court’s President

A community in Plateau State known as the Gamai Nation, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing one of their own as President of the Appeal Court.

The appointment which saw Justice Monica Mensem-Dongban as Acting President of the Appeal Court, also made Buhari a hero before the Monarch of the community, the “Long Gamai”.

Justice Mensem-Dongban who was heading the Enugu division of the Court of Appeal was however the next in line as the most senior Justice after the retirement of Justice Zainab Bulkachwa.

However, while thanking Buhari for the honour done to them, the Group also laud the the National Judicial Council (NJC), for recommending Mensem-Dongban to the President as substantive Court of Appeal boss.

To further buttress their appreciation to Buhari, the Gamai Unity and Development Organisation (GUDO), in a statement jointly signed by it’s president Theodore Maiyaki and Secretary General Bitkop Fidelis, noted that the Gamai Nation and indeed the entire citizens of Plateau stand in gratitude for President Buhari for honouring them.

According to the statement, “this gesture will go down the annals of history that President Buhari’s penchant for integrity and placing square pegs in square holes by getting the best people onboard his team to help reposition Nigeria on the path of truth and honour is matched to none as well as unprecedented.

“The approval of Justice Monica Mensem-Dongban’s appointment in Acting capacity, a woman to take over from Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa a fellow woman, is a clear testimony that you are gender sensitive”.

“As a people, we urge Mr. President to forward her name to the National Assembly for confirmation so as to consolidate on the confidence repose in her with the view to benefit from her outstanding and impeccable experience on the Court of Appeal bench in moving it to the next level”, the statement reads in part.
