My plan is to give Ekiti people quality life, says guber aspirant

A governorship aspirant in Ekiti State on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Makanjuola Akindele Owolabi, has said that judging from his track records, experience and training, he is the best of the candidates available for the governorship election coming up in the state this year.
Owolabi, popularly known as MAO, hinted that because he is eminently qualified and ready for the state’s number one job, he has decided to sacrifice the remaining parts of his life to making a difference and rescue Ekiti State.
“I am prepared to rescue the honour, posterity and dignity of Ekiti State. I do believe I am capable and ready. People can look at my profile and it will be clear that I am the best of the candidates available,” Owolabi said.
Owolabi, who spoke at the weekend in Kaduna, Kaduna State, also proposed a 5-point agenda that would jump start the entire economy and the wellbeing of Ekiti State.
According to him, his 5-point agenda include quality education, quality health, infrastructural development, mechanised farming and good governance.
Owolabi noted that education is number one tool that can be used to change the state or improve the society of the people.
He therefore, assured that quality education will be one area he would give proper attention when he gets to the government house.
As the first surgeon and specialist in aviation medicine, Owolabi said that he will bring his wide range of experience to bear so that his people can have access to quality health care.
“Two, is quality health care, as you know I have been a doctor for the past 41 years; that is my own area of specialisation and am very familiar with the obstacle and challenges that we are facing. We are going to make Ekiti State a model; when it comes to quality health care.”
The Aisegba – born politician, also said that infrastructural developments would also top his agenda whenever he is given the mantle of leadership.
“The following is infrastructure development. When I am talking about infrastructure, I am not talking of decorating or deceitful project units, like dividing the road into two.
I am talking about quality infrastructure development, modern roads, bridges, power, potable water, sanitation, special system and other things that make a society decent. And we are even lucky that we have a president who promised to give Ekiti State an airport, which we are going to make an Agricultural Cargo airport,” he said.
The aspirant pledged that Ekiti State will be the food basket, not only to Nigeria, but for the West African region.
He said such status is possible because Ekiti State already has the capacity to produce about 26 revenue generating crops.
He therefore, suggested that what Ekiti State needs is a rural road to access those farming establishments so as to transform the rural areas to modern enterprise.
He also added that, “we are not only going to use just agricultural raw materials, we are going to ensure that the entire value chain system. For example, cocoa that we are known for is used for the production of chocolates. This is why we need infrastructure to support all these projects.”
The fourth, according to Owolabi is mechanised agriculture, since Ekiti State is blessed with arable land “As farmers, we have determined that mechanised agriculture is the way to go.
It entails getting all the youths, train and also motivate them to know that the rich people in America and other parts of the world are farmers too.
“We should also let them know that this coming doctor started his hospital that is now a world class from the process of farming. The last one is good governance without any complaint and with real leadership.”
Speaking further on his plans, Owolabi equally assured that he will make Ekiti State self sustaining by increasing the internally generated revenue in such a manner that the federal allocation will just be an addition.
“Not only that, Ekiti State will be the role model state in knowledge based economy. And this is why in my website we have set 5- points agenda which will ensure that happens in Ekiti,” he said.
