PHOTOS: Lagos gas explosion injures three, damages cars, trucks

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has extinguished a gas explosion at No 19B Alakoso Industrial Estate, which injured three adult males, according to our correspondent.

According to the agency, four cars, one bus and two trucks were also affected in the explosion. 

Preliminary investigation by the agency revealed that a truck conveying oxygen gas cylinders to a hospital exploded. 

A statement signed by LASEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, Nosa Okunbor said: “LASEMA received an emergency call via its Toll Free numbers in the Control Room and immediately activated its Response Team to the incident scene.

“Upon arrival at the scene of incident it was discovered that an explosion occurred in one of the trucks used in supplying oxygen gas cylinders to hospitals from the Gas company.

“Emergency responders were able to extinguish the inferno before it extended further. Brief post disaster assessment was done and three male adults sustained various levels of injuries and were taken to Gbagada General Hospital. 

“Four cars, one bus and two trucks were affected by the explosion. The LASEMA Response Team, the LRU Fire, Lagos State Fire Service and Federal Fire Services were responders at the incident scene.”

In another a related development, LASEMA Response Team has put out a storage fire at a mini-warehouse in Alakoro, Oke-Arin area of Idumota without loss of life nor injuries sustained.

LASEMA said the fire incident, whose cause could not be ascertained, occurred in a Shop which was utilized as a warehouse on the second floor of a three-storey building, and was promptly extinguished before it could escalate to other floors of the building.

“The interventions of the emergency responders (LASEMA, alongside LASG fire, Federal fire services, were able to arrest the fire before it could escalate to other shops and adjoining buildings,” the statement also said.
