PDP’ll deal with renegades at appointed time, says Gov. Ikpeazu, stakeholders
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has said that the Peopled Democratic Party (PDP) would do the needful at the appropriate time to those who had left the party.
Ikpeazu disclosed this to Daily Times when party stakeholders from Umuahia North paid him a weekend solidarity visit, pointing out that the PDP was not divided in the state.
According to Ikpeazu “there are renegades in every community and I cannot promote the activities of such renegades to the level of competition with the mainstream”.
Ikpeazu had, while addressing the Umuahia North LGA party faithful, who came to tell him to disregard some people who had appeared in some national dailies report, claiming to be elders of the state and supporting Uche Oga legal battle, told them that those people were not elders of the state and also not members of the PDP.
He commended the role Umuahia was playing in supporting him and ensuring that equity and justice would reign, stating that the legal battle going on in the state was not about himself, but about the governorship position, which he said was about the future of the state and that of the people.
Ikpeazu assured that such people’s plans had failed, stating that, “any attempt to remove a sitting president or governor amounts to treasonable felony. Some of them will be tried for treason”.
Ikpeazu said the person trying to on-seat him was not doing so with the consent of his people, but in alliance with some people from Anambra State, while those within the stated, who sided him were contractors bought over with money.
“They are people without character, people on personal vendetta, people who want to bring up a society where we cannot even bring home our children”, he said, promising that he would continue to count on Abians, who must unite.
Ikpeazu described his mandate as sacred, vowing “God must surely raise a standard against those who are planning to destabilise Abia. Time shall come when we will open the book of Chronicles”.
The leader of the Umuahia North LGA PDP stakeholders, Prof. Joshua Chimgoziri Ogbonnaya, said that those who claimed to be supporting Ogah as shown and reported in daily newspapers were not elders of the state, and neither were they members of Abia State Council of Elders, having claimed to be “chairman of Prime Ministers and village heads of all autonomous communities in Abia”.
“They claim to be representatives of the people. Are they members of the state House of Assembly?” Prof Ogbonnaya asked, stating: “We are the true people that gave Ikpeazu the mandate according to the Abia Charter of Equity”.
Also speaking the former Rector of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, Elder Alwell Onukaogu, said that Ikpeazu was not the issue, but the people, stating, “We cannot abandon you and we will see it to the end”.
