PDP govs to support FG to fight insecurity, say no gov decamping

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has promised to collaborate with the Federal Government in tackling insecurity in almost every parts of the country.

Rising from a meeting held at the Sokoto State governor’s lodge in Abuja on Thursday, chairman of PDP Governors Forum, Aminu Tambuwal said it is imperative for all executive governors in the country to support efforts by the Federal Government to stem the riding wave of insecurity which does not reckon with party, tribe or religion.

Tambuwal also affirmatively said no PDP governor is leaving the party as they have all resolved to stay put and contribute towards the return of the party to power in 2023.

The governors commended the Bukola Saraki led National Reconciliation Committee for its efforts in mending broken fences and reconciling aggrieved parties in PDP troubled states.

Tambuwal said the governors at the meeting resolved to work with the committee in resolving all lingering crisis in PDP, reposition the party and make it a readily available platform for Nigerians desirous of change of government come 2023.

The Sokoto governor said the meeting discuss issues affecting the soul of the party, particularly the rift in some of its state chapters, the South-West crisis among others.

At the meeting are the host and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, his Rivers, Delta and Edo state counterparts, Nyesom Wike, Ifeanyi Okowa and Godwin Obaseki respectively.

Others at the meeting are Samuel Ortom, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Ben Ayade, Bello Matawalle, Adamu Fintiri, Douye Firi and Seyi Makinde, governors of Benue, Enugu, Cross River, Zamfara and Adamawa, Bayelsa and Oyo states respectively.

Also in attendance is the chairman of the PDP Reconciliation and Strategy Committee, and immediate past President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Notable national leaders of the party at the expanded meeting include former governors; Liyel Imoke of Cross Rivers, Shehu Shema of Katsina, Ibrahim Damkwabo of Gombe.

The chairman, National Reconciliation Committee, Dr. Bukola Saraki who earlier briefed the press after a meeting with governors said the committee came to brief the state executives who are very important organ of the party about
some of the reconciliation efforts of the committee.

Saraki expressed satisfaction with the level of commitment of the governors to party issues while commending the leadership of the PDP governors’ forum under Sokoto governor, Aminu Tambuwal for carrying all PDP governors along.

He said ” we are here to brief them on what we’ve done what we’ve been able to achieve, and also to plan our strategy, how we’re going to work together.

“As part of the reconciliation, we’re so close with our governors. And they also expressed a commitment to their support to this committee, that they will do all they can to make it very successful. They’ll work closely together from time to time, we’ll meet regularly to brief them so that when we need them to intervene, they will intervene”.

Speaking in the cohesiveness of the PDP governors, Saraki said “I will say that before today, maybe I wasn’t sure, today I’m really excited with what I saw there. I wish you too would have been inside there, you will have come out to say yes, they are showing serious commitment on the part of governance.

“The attendance was very high. I mean I’ve been to many of these meetings. I think we have about 85% attendance or something like that, that shows you commitment at this point of time. And everybody is committed and we know what Nigerians are saying that this government has not done enough and they are looking for PDP to come back.

“We know the responsibility that entails and that is why we are open about how to show Nigerians that we are now more discipline, more mature and more committed party that is focused on ideals and the principles that will make a better life for people”.
