PDP Deputy National Chairman joins APC for fear of persecution by EFCC – Zainabari

The Bauchi State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Alhaji Yaya Inuwa Zainabari has alleged that the former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Babayo Garba Gamawa defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for fear of persecution and intimidation by the anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Speaking to journalists in Bauchi, Zainabari said the APC led federal government uses anti graft agencies to scare members of the opposition thereby forcing them to join their party for safety. According to him, “Senator Babayo Garba defected for his personal interest; it was not in the best interest of the nation or Bauchi state. He was suspended by the party over abscondment from his office for over six months, as PDP Deputy National chairman. The PDP publicity Secretary said, “Gamawa was once a deputy governor in Bauchi State, and this APC government is fond of intimidating people who held power even as local government chairman. That will compel you to defect to that party because they turned EFCC into their hunting dog. This is one of the reasons for his decision I think”. Zainabari also opined that Gamawa being one time speaker of the state assembly, deputy governor and senator was not contented with what he gains in his recent position as deputy party chairman, hence his decision to quit the party. The publicity secretary boasted that despite Gamawa’s exit, the party’s chance of winning in the next general election in the state would not be affected, pointing out that PDP did not die even when prominent party members abandoned it in the past.
