PDP crisis: Our doors are open to Sheriff’s faction in Lagos, says Bode George

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Chief Olabode George has said that the state chapter of the party was ready to welcome the Ali modu Sheriff faction in the state headed by Segun Adewale back into it fold, if it was ready to respect the constitution of the party and maintain peace.
George, who is a former deputy national chairman of the party , stated this in a chat with newsmen, noting that the recent judgement of the Supreme Court had affirmed the supremacy of the party’s Constitution over any individual or committee, stressing that Moshood Savaldor is the legally recognised chairman of the party in Lagos State, based on the judgement.
He added that the PDP was in a rebuilding process after the long protracted leadership crisis, adding that machinery have been put in place to meet aggrieved members.
He said “Since the Supreme Court rule against them, I want to appeal to the Sheriff faction to come and join the party, we have extended a hand of fellowship to you, the court have decided that the party constitution is sacrosanct, but you must be ready to obey the Constitution we would hand it over to you.
“The party have decided that anything beyond Salvodor is not PDP in Lagos State, the people have the experience to take the party back to the top, we have learnt our lessons from this crisis and we are not ready to allow anything pull us back,” Georg said.
On the refusal of the Sheriff faction to vacate the party Secretariat in Lagos State after the judgement, the party leader disclosed that they had informed the police to effect the eviction after the latest Supreme Court judgement, adding that the party decided to take such step as it did not want the issue to degenerate into a fracas.
He said that the faction had no choice but to vacate the Secretariat, adding that he rented the complex with his money and had shown the receipt to the police.
He said “They broke into the party Secretariat, when the SSS brought people there I showed them the receipt of the rent, but our boys that are more would have confronted them but we said let’s wait for the judgement.
“But we have now gotten back to the police, that we want our Secretariat back since the judgement is in our favour. The police commissioner would invite the two chairmen and they would be told to vacate the place. We decided to approach the issue in a civilised manner because we don’t want crisis in Lagos.”
