Palm Sunday: Catholics in Jos adhere to safety directives on COVID-19

Jos -As Catholics all over the world mark Palm Sunday, their counterparts in Jos have complied with government safety directives on measures to curtail the spread of Coronavirus in the state.

Some of the parishes on Sunday reports that the 50-persons directive on religious gathering was strickly adhered to.

Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter, on which Christ’s entry into Jerusalem is celebrated in many Christian churches by a procession in which branches of palms are carried.

Rev. Fr. Kizito Fogos, the Parish Priest of Church of Assumption Chongo’Pyeng, Jos, said the Church decided to suspend the usual procession that is done on such special Sundays to abide by government’s decision.

Fogos said that branches of palms were blessed by the priests and kept in front of churches for members to use, instead of the usual celebration that accompany the day.

He also explained that the church also asked members, who could not come to church to get branches of palms and place them in front of their houses as a sign of celebration of the special Sunday.
