Osinbajo, Tinubu, Govs, others storm Ekiti for Fayemi

Ekiti people stood still for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, as Vice Yemi Osinbajo urged the people of Ekiti State to vote massively for the APC and Fayemi in the July 14 governorship election.

There were people who wore aso ebi to the occasion while some others wore T-shirt design with APC logo with Fayemi photograph on it

The Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, venue of the rally, was filled up with supporters and lovers of Fayemi whom they were singing praises of as their Messiah.

The Vice President, who described Fayemi as the best man for the job, advised Ekiti residents to join the league of progressive states of Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Oyo and Ondo states of the Southwest region.

He said Fayemi is the only credible alternative that can bring the desired change and development that Ekiti needed now.

Specifically, Osinbajo described Fayemi as a man sent by God to deliver Ekiti from poverty, saying the July 14 election affords the electorate the opportunity to change their destinies for good.

He said, “God has brought a blessed man, who is Dr. Kayode Fayemi. He will do Ekiti a lot of good if elected governor. He will bring development to your doorsteps.

“On July 14, don’t look back or sideway, just look forward to a good future ahead of you by voting for Fayemi. APC is a party of progress. Let us vote for the APC in this election.

“APC will help Ekiti to develop because the PDP has outlived its usefulness”.

Also, the outgoing National Chairman of the APC , Chief John Odigie Oyegun and National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as well as Chief Bisi Akande told the electorate to vote right on July 14, saying a vote for the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) means
continuation of poverty, slavery and backwardness.

Osinbajo and other party leaders spoke in Ado Ekiti at Oluyemi Kayode stadium on Tuesday during official presentation of the governorship flag to Fayemi for the July 14 election.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr. Boss Mustapha and former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole were at the rally.

Governors from Zamfara and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ forum, Governor Abdulaziz Yari; Edo, Godwin Obaseki; Osun, Rauf Aregbesola; Ondo, Rotimi Akeredolu; Kogi, Yahaya Bello; Oyo, Abiola Ajimobi; Kwara, Abdufatah Ahmed; Jigawa, Abubakar Badaru; Plateau, Simon Lalong; Borno, Kashim Shettima; Ogun, Ibikunle Amosun; and that of Kebbi State, Senator Atiku Bagudu were in attendance.

Bwari as well as Senator Olorunnibe Mamora also graced the rally.

Osinbajo and Oyegun jointly received the PDP defectors, who were led by former Minister of Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, a serving Majority Leader in Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Adeniran Alagbada and former Special Adviser in Ekiti State, Mr. Bosun Osaloni, who decamped to APC.

Oyegun said the July 14 is a done deal for the party, saying: “immediately I entered Ekiti, I could feel, smell that resounding
victory we will record on July 14.

“You have tested two wives, and you have known who is best. Fayemi is the best man for the job. He will do Ekiti proud and restore honour and dignity to your state”, he added.

Welcoming the defectors, led by Adeyeye, Oyegun assured that nobody will be discriminated against in the party.

“I welcome all of you to our party. You are welcome proudly to a progressive party that is steering the ship of our nation to the right shore”.

In his own speech at the occasion, Tinubu said Ekiti should not be excluded from the broom revolution that is blowing across the nation.

The party’s National leader said change is necessary in Ekiti on July 14 and that the electorate must get their Permanent Voter Cards to effect such change.

He said, “If you really want progress, what is the essence of you staying here from morning without having a PVC. Ekiti won’t go back to sadness and poverty.

“The PVC represents your red card on the day of election. I want you to give PDP a red card on the day of election. Fayemi was a Minister, he now understands the game. I want you to vote him 100 percent on July 14”.

Oshiomhole also described the PDP as a party that was dictatorial while in the saddle of governance in the country.

He said, “We thank God that we have swept them away. I was on my way here from Edo in 2014 when Fayemi was seeking re-election when the PDP stopped me at Benin Airport, even as a sitting governor. PDP was known for abuse of power and their days are gone.

“Ekiti is the most educated state in Nigeria and I knew you voted for Fayemi in 2014, because Ekiti has highest pupil enrolment in schools then and I know that a state that is highly educated like Ekiti could not have voted for a roadside banana eater.

“On July 14, it is one man, one vote, one woman, one vote. Your votes will count this time. Nobody will tinker with it”.

The Chairman of the National Campaign Council and Kebbi State Governor, Atiku Bagudu, said Nigeria has been in safe hands since 2015 when President Buhari and Osinbajo took over, urging Ekiti to join the moving train in this coming election.

“If Ogun, Ondo, Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Plateau and Kebbi could embrace APC, Ekiti must do same, becase we represent progress”, Bagudu stated.

Governors Amosun, Aregbesola, Bello, Ajimobi and Ahmed, who spoke, urged the electorate to vote Fayemi to bring unprecedented progress to the state.

Fayemi while addressing supporters, promised that all the programmes initiated by his administration but abrogated by the present
government will be restored in the interest of the populace.

“The Youth in Agriculture, Youth volunteer, the Ekiti State Traffic Management Agency, Social Security scheme and other landmark programmes will be revamped for the benefit of Ekiti people.

“Governor Ayo Fayose said he wanted continuity, I know Ekiti won’t subscribe to continuity of poverty, wanton neglect, fraud and
pauperisation of our people in the name of governance,” he added.

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Niyi Adebayo, said the INEC won’t listen to plea by some groups that the Federal Government should not deploy soldiers and police for the election.
