Onion marketers to restrict supply to South-East

Following the ongoing instability sweeping the region, the Onion Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (OPMAN) said that it has finalized a strategy to restrict the supply of onions to the Southeast.
On Wednesday, OPMAN’s National President, Aliyu Isah, made the news.
According to him, the traders have been targeted by unknown gunmen in the area, prompting the decision to halt supply until normalcy is restored.
He stated that gunmen suspected of being members of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, had hijacked two trucks carrying the goods.
Remember that the South-East has been beset by security issues, with suspected IPOB members and the group’s security outfit, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, attacking security personnel and government institutions.
Last week, several people thought to be IPOB members intercepted a truckload of Onion and allegedly dispersed the product to the general population.
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, has emphasized that his organization is not responsible for any acts of violence in the region.
