The Commandant General of National Unity and Peace Corps, Dr. Chinedu Nneji has called on Nigerians to support the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to enable him deliver on his election promises.

Nneji also urged the President to sign into law the Peace Corps Bill which has been passed by the National Assembly, adding it is one of the platforms government can use to implement it’s programme on youth empowerment.

The NUPEC boss stated this Tuesday in Abuja while addressing the media.

According to him, Nigeria needs to rally round the president and pray for the country so that peace and development will reign at all time. He said that it is only through their support and encouragement that the President can fulfil his electoral promises and bring about the much clamoured change.

He said that “the only way for the president to succeed is through the people’s prayers and encouragement to the president”.

Dr. Nneji appealed to the president to sign into law the bill establishing Nigerian Peace Corps which he said “would not only create job opportunities for the Nigerians youths but assist in enthroning an enduring peace and love among Nigerians.”

He pledged that the Corps would continue to maintain its mandate of mediation and dialogue in communities where there are crisis with the view to ensuring that the people embrace peace, unity and love.

He urged Nigerian leaders to nurture a new generation of Nigerians who will be accommodating, tolerant and peaceful towards religious and social issues pointing out that leaders should highlight the need for peaceful co-existence irrespective of tribe, religion or culture.

Nneji promised that the Corps would cooperate with other security agencies in eradication of ant-social behaviours of the youths pointing out that the Corps has launched some programmes like “operation love your neighbour”, “operation talk the peace project” and many other out door campaigns targeted at promoting peace and Unity and re-engineering the minds of Nigerians towards seeing themselves as brothers and sisters wherever they found themselves in any part of the Country.

Nneji remarked that he is working in synergy with the ECOWAS, AU, EU and other arms of the united Nations that deal with peace to seek for their co-operation in ensuring a lasting peace in all parts of country in concluding the issue of Boko Haram and the herdsmen and farmers clashes.
