‘Niger PDP to run parallel exco’
As problems in Niger State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepens, the former Chairman of the party Alhaji Mohammad Enagi, on Sunday, vowed to run a parallel executive council, if the abnormality that took place at the state congress was not corrected.
He said the last congress violated the party’s constitution, against the wish of the people. “You cannot have democracy when the nomination forms meant for the congress is being hijacked by a single person; it is totally wrong and unacceptable.”
Speaking to newsmen in Minna, Niger state capital, Enagi described the discrepancies associated with the congress as unbearable, and for which “we have called for a parallel exco that will respect everyone in the party and uphold the constitution of PDP.
“What happened at that last congress is not democracy. People were not represented at all in any form. You will not have democracy if the selling of nomination forms are not made public to individuals that have interest.”
The former chairman maintained that every individual who indicated interest should have been allowed to purchase the form and contested for any position he or she deemed fit, stating that many people bought forms but were not allow to participate in the congress.
“Out of the 900 delegates accredited to vote in the congress, a candidate got 1,700 votes. You can see that there is a problem. Something is wrong with the system and that is why we are agitating to know why such irregularities in the party, he queried.”
