Niger APC suspends Senators, Reps, over refusal to settle dues
Niger State branch of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday suspended the three Senators and other six legislators, representing the state at the National Assembly, over alleged refusal to remit dues to the party.
Secretary of the party, Bar. Mohammed Liman told newsmen at the party’s secretariat in Minna that of the 13 lawmakers produced by the party serving in the lower and upper houses at the National Assembly, only six have complied at the moment.
He explained that the constitution of the APC made it categorically clear that any member that fails to pay his or her dues is technically, not a member of the party.
According to him, ” The constitution says you must pay your dues as at when due. This means technically, they have suspended themselves. Those we elected did not deem it fit to support the party financially, and how do they want the part to move on?”
The three Senators affected include Mustapha Sani Mohammed zone A, David Umaru zone B, and Aliyu Abdullahi Sabi zone C, respectively.
While, members of the federal house of representatives affected are Honorable Muhammed Bala Faruk, Bida/gbako/Kacha, constituency, Mohammad Mahmood, Lapai/Agaie federal constituency, Ahmed Abu Lavun/Edati/Mokwa constituency.
The list also include Abubakar Lado Abdullahi Suleja/Tafa/Gurara constituency, Shehu Sule Magama/Rijau constituency as well as Salihu Adamu Shadafi Bosso/Paikoro Constituency.
Liman further maintained that because the affected lawmakers have deliberately refused to settle their dues with the party in the state, they stand suspended technically.
He added that only four House of Representatives members paid theirs, while all their counterparts in the State House of Assembly have settled the dues.
