Niger APC reject Buhari nominee for River Basin Authority

The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Niger state has rejected President Muhammad Buhari nominee for the Managing Director position of the Upper Niger River Basin Development Authority.
The party said it would prefer an indigene of Niger state for the position instead of Professor Abdulkarim Ali of Bayero University Kano who is also an indigene of Kano state.
The party said through its state chairman, Engineer Muhammad Jibrin Imam, that the managing director’s position of the river basin development authority had eluded Niger state for over 20 years whereas the organisation is meant to serve the Niger, Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Engineer Imam who spoke to newsmen in Minna on Thursday pleaded with president Muhammad Buhari to correct the anomaly in line with the change agenda of his administration.
The APC chieftain said Niger state governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello have also been intimated of the need for his government to put pressure on the presidency to reverse the appointment.
“We have complained to our governor so that he can help us talk to president buhari, even though we know the president have the prerogative to appoint anybody he deemed fit, we still feel it is good we make our position known.”
He further said: “The entire APC in Niger state is appealing to President Buhari to reconsider Niger state in the appointment of a new managing mirector for the river basin in the interest of equity and fair patronage.
“We have competent and qualified men and women that can occupy the position, and turn the fortunes of the organisation around.”
