NESREA to embark on vehicular emission test in Kwara from April

The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) said it will embark on Vehicular Emission Test from April 2017 in Kwara to ascertain vehicles that are road worthy.
The Kwara state coordinator of ESREA, Mr. Martins Enenwaene, disclosed this in Ilorin, the capital on Monday, while speaking with newsmen. He said the action. Is to identify all vehicles polluting the atmosphere while on the major highways through the thick smoke emit. The coordinator of the Agency said the inspection will also cover those operating generator sets along the road sides in all parts of the state.
According to him, the equipment for the enforcement of the Vehicle Emission law have been imported and would be mounted at strategic locations at different parts of the state. He said those discovered emitting smokes from their activities would be detected and fine will be imposed on them by the Agency in accordance with the law. Enenwaene said the staff of the agency would be trained on the usage of the new device to detect vehicles and other equipment causing health hazard to residents of the state.
The state coordinator of the agency added that the agency would also enforce the law that guides against noisy environment by those operating musical facilities such as recording studios and those selling Compact Disk and cassettes. He said the Agency is currently embarking on sensitization programmes to create awareness on the need for people to comply. The state Coordinator said it was mandatory for every owner of facilities to carry out an environmental audit every three years while failure to comply would lead to litigation.
Enenwaene disclosed that there is robust relationship between the agency and Kwara government through its agencies such as the State Ministry of Environment and the state environmental protection agency (KWEPA) as well as security operatives. He appealed to Nigerians to be wary of whatever they put into the environment and guide against polluting the environment more so that the world is now experiencing climate change and global warming.
