Neighbours save woman from abductors

A resident of Alagbado, a suburb of Lagos State, Mrs. Funmilayo Mayowa, narrowly escaped being abducted by unknown gunmen recently.

The unknown gunmen, four in number, were said to have hidden themselves around her residence located on AIT Road, Alagbado, and pounced on her as she was about to enter her house at about 8pm on the fateful day.

But as they were about whisking her away, her scream alerted neighbours and the local vigilance group, who rushed in and rescued her, while the gunmen escaped through the bush.

Speaking on her ordeal, Mrs. Mayowa, while expressing gratitude to God for the rescue, thanked her neighbours for their prompt intervention.

“I thank God for the quick intervention of my neighbours. But for them and of course God, I wonder what would have been my fate by now. I thank them for their courage. Their coming helped save my life. I thank God for moving them to come to help me in my hour of need,” she said.

She decried the spate of kidnapping in the country, lamenting that despite the recent arrest of billionaire kidnap kingpin, Evans, and others, the menace has not abated.

Mrs. Mayowa called on the government to adopt stringent security measures to curb kidnapping and other criminalities in order to allow law abiding citizens of the country to go about their normal duties and business without hindrance and molestation.
