NCC adduces reason why it invests in sports

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said that it is investing in sport, especially Lawn Tennis because of the special consideration that sport is capable of creating wealth for the nation.

The Executive Vice-Chairman of the NCC, Professor Umar Danbatta stated this in his speech at the launch of the 2016 Edition of the NCC Tennis Cup held at the Ikoyi Cub in Lagos.

“Investments in Sports will help our youths to be engaged, become world class players, creates employment opportunities and ultimately create wealth for the nation,” Danbatta declared.

Professor Umar Danbatta  who was represented by Mrs. Iyabode Sholanke-Director, Special Duties at NCC, noted that the NCC Tennis cup is a nationwide tennis league that promotes healthy competition in the game of lawn Tennis across the country, adding that the Commission aims to positively engage tennis Players and provide a platform for them to excel.

The Minister of Youths & Sports, Barr. Solomon Dalung, who was the Guest of Honour, in his brief remarks thanked the Commission for investing in the game of lawn tennis in Nigeria.

” let us invest in Youth development so that we can save tomorrow,” he said.

Ten teams will participate in the tournament compared to eight teams of the 2015 edition. The groups were divided into Blue and White Groups representing the brand colours of the NCC.

The winning team will go home with seven million Naira; Runner-up team-five million Naira; Third place Team-three million Naira while the fourth place team goes home with two million Naira.

The Commission also received award as the Outstanding 2015 Tennis Sponsor.
