Nasarawa witnesses peaceful Presidential, National Assembly polls

As Nigerians came out last Saturday to exercise their franchise across the country, Nasarawa State witnessed peaceful exercise in some part of the state. Our Correspondent who went round some Local government in the southern senatorial zone of the state reported that election was peaceful and rancour free. It was also gathered that all the areas visited in the zone, like Obi, Keana, Lafia and Awe Local government, electorates were seen at various polling units in their numbers waiting to exercise their franchise. In an interview with the Commissioner of Land and Survey in Obi local Government Area, Hajiya Saadatu Yahaya said, “so far in our area, election is going on free of rancour and everybody was peaceful without problem,” she noted. The Commissioner further informed that “As I speak to you I have not had any case of violent in the areas of Obi, Agwatashi and Dadere all in Obi Local Government. It is my responsibility to go round to ensure that election was free fair and peaceful,” she added. Also interviewed was the Chairman, Lafia Local Government Area, Aminu Muazu Maifata, he said, election was peaceful as electorates queued to vote the candidate of their choice except some small challenges which were being addressed. The Chairman commended the security personnel in the state for ensuring that electorates conducted themselves in orderly manner.  Maifata, who  denied rumours of late arrival of election materials in Lafia Local government area of the state, added that it was in some polling units in Chiroma Ward that  experienced little problem because of their numerical strength.
