MTNF chair tasks youths on career development

Beneficiaries of the MTN Foundation Scholarship scheme have been challenged to take advantage of the MTN Foundation Scholars Alumni platform to connect, collaborate and commit to the development of themselves and Nigeria.
Chairman of MTN Foundation, Prince Julius Adelusi-Adeluyi, gave the advice at grand finale of the inaugural MTN Foundation Scholars Alumni conference held recently at NECA House, Ikeja-Lagos, expressing the hope that association will create a vibrant social media platform for networking which will expose members to valuable information that will take their careers to enviable heights.
He said: “I urge you to take advantage of this platform to connect, collaborate and commit to development both of yourselves and the nation. To have received a scholarship is an indication that you possess several qualities that will help ensure a successful career, whether in an organisation or in business”.
He urged them to participate actively in the association as well as play active roles in their career so as to make MTN Foundation proud.
Prince Adeluyi, a former Minister of Health, disclosed that the inaugural MTN Foundation Scholars Alumni was aimed at providing critical information and assistance to all students who have benefited from foundation’s scholarship.
He described the inauguration of the MTN Foundation Scholars Alumni as another milestone, adding that it will expose members to requirements in the world of work.
The MTN Foundation chairman said the Scholarship scheme remains an integral part of the Corporate Social Investment projects of the MTN aimed at putting smiles on the faces of Nigerians.
He revealed that the company has so far invested over N16 billion in 550 projects spread across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, adding that the company will continually strive to make Nigerians happy.
Also speaking, Chairman of MTN, Dr. Pascal Dozie, urged beneficiaries to use the MTN Foundation Scholars Alumni to build strong networks and relationship as they face future challenges.
He stressed the need for beneficiaries of the scholarship to lend helping hands to others in the society, adding that no one lives for him/herself alone.
His words: “There is need for beneficiaries of our scholarship scheme to lend helping hands to other as doing this will impact positively on the larger society. This way, you will be displaying one of the core values of the MTN”.
In her address, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Idiat Oluranti Adebule, expressed profound gratitude to the MTN Foundation for their role and commitment at providing an annual scholarship grants running into almost N2 billion to over 3,115 Nigerian students since 2009.
While congratulating the beneficiaries for successful completion of their studies, Adebule, who was represented by an official of the Ministry of Education, said: “You have all justified MTNF’s huge investment in your education. I enjoin you all as stakeholders to use today’s conference to become part of an integral sustainable platform for networking and exposure to valuable information. In addition, the onus is on you all to continually build and strengthen the community of beneficiaries and enlighten others as well”.
The beneficiaries were later taken through an employability workshop where resource persons enlightened them on how to succeed in the careers.
It would be recalled that the MTN Foundation Scholars Alumni conference was earlier held in Owerri and Abuja before the grand finale in Lagos.
