MOUAU VC yet to make good his court action threat to media

Many days after his threat to drag a national newspaper to court for a “false “publication, the Vice- Chancellor, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Ogbonnaya Otunta is yet to make good his threat of “legal redress”.
This threat was against a national newspaper (not theDaily Times) for the alleged false publication that appeared on the front page on the 16th of March, this year and titled “Abia rerun: V-C shuts up returning officer”.
Otunta had, in a press conference, in his office on the 17th of March, where he read out a press release, signed by his Head, Public Relations/Protocol, Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu, alleged that the publication was “not only false, but misleading”, stating that the he was only 17 days in the university.
The V-C had said that he “has never met the said wrongly addressed Prof. Nwankwo Ojike or had any discussion with him.
According to him, “The university management therefore demands a published apology from the editorial team of the newspaper in the next 48 hours which must be published in the cover page (of the newspaper).
“Also, the university management demands a retraction of the said story within 48 hours. Failure to meet the demands as listed above by the university will leave the management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike with the option of seeking legal redress”.
When contacted, a management staff of the school and Head, Public Relations/Protocol, Onyinye Ralph-Nwachukwu said the “management of the school and the newspaper were still handling it (the issue) officially.
