Mobile court convicts 29 violators of lockdown order in Minna

A special mobile court set up by the Niger state government has convicted another 29 persons for violating the lockdown order imposed by the state fovernment.

The suspects were arrested by security operatives from different parts of Minna, the state capital.
All the suspects, were arranged by the state lead counsel, Suleiman Wushishi, who said the accused persons were charged in accordance with Niger state COVID-19 Executive Order, 2020.
The mobile court session was held at the Trade Fare Complex, Minna and jointly presided over by Magistrates Murtala Ibrahim and Halima Mohammed respectively.
Meanwhile, the accused commercial drivers, Shafiu Adebayo and one Husseini Umar were sentenced to six months in prison each with an option of N8,000 and N5,000 fine respectively.

Other passengers intercepted in the 18-seater commercial buses were sentenced to three months in prison with an option of N3,000 fine each, while one Abdulfatah Abdulwahab was sentenced to one month in prison with an option of N1,000 fine.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps patrol team has apprehended two overloaded Sharon vehicles along the Minna – Suleja Road in the early hours of Tuesday.
The vehicles were coming into Minna from Kano state and were immediately impounded by the FRSC in Minna.
The FRSC immediately notified and invited the chairman task force on COVID-19 and the rapid response team for further action.
