Man petitions police as suspect he stood surety for jumps bail


A 48 -year -old Nigerian, Innocent Nze, has appealed to the police to apprehend one Igbetin Kelvin, who he stood surety for during a court case in 2014, but has since jumped bail and is now at large.
Nze, who claims to be a friend to Igbetin’s brother in a Save Our Soul letter to the Edo state Police Commissioner, appealed to the police to assist in apprehending the fleeing suspect, in order for him not to suffer for an offence he did not commit.
Kelvin was alleged to have been arrested by some youths in Iliki community of Edo state in 2014 for allegedly having homosexual relations with another boy in the community, an act seen as an abomination based on the cultural beliefs of the people.

Though Kelvin was said to have been taken to the palace of the traditional ruler by the youths, the Onojie of Iliki Kingdom, Sir Ebefure Peter was said to have subsequently, handed him over to the police prosecution.
According to Nze, he had pity on Kelvin after hearing from his brother how he was publicly humiliated by the youths of the community and the trauma he went through in the court before he was granted bail.
He added that after the counsel to Kelvin, Femi Esan convinced the court to grant his client bail to the tune of N150, 000 and one surety, that Kelvin only appeared in court twice and has remained incommunicado, and his whereabouts unknown since 2014.
The surety is therefore, appealing to the police do everything possible to apprehend the fleeing suspect, revealing that he has heard rumours that Kelvin has left the country.
