Man, 32, allegedly stabs another over dispute

A 32-year-old man, Vincent Uvoh, accused of stabbing another man with a broken bottle, was on Thursday in Lagos granted N100,000 bail.

The Magistrate, Mr O. Y. Aro-Lambo, who gave the ruling at an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, told the accused to produce two sureties as part of the bail conditions.

Aro-Lambo said the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye, had told the court that the accused, who entered a not-guilty plea, committed the offence on April 12, at Libra Motor Park, Mile 2, Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

The accused, who resides at Mile2 area of Lagos, is charged with grievous harm.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused assaulted one Mr Gabriel Obaraye by beating him up and stabbing him all over his body with a broken bottle.

Kokoye said the assault was as a result of an argument which ensued between the accused and the complainant.

He said efforts by other pedestrians at the scene of the incident to settle the dispute proved abortive.

The prosecutor said that Uvoh tried to escape after stabbing the complainant, but was apprehended by some pedestrians at the scene.

He said Obaraye reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested.

Kokoye submitted that the offence contravened Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

The magistrate adjourned the case till May 4 for mention.
