Maid in court for allegedly stealing N3m jewellery

The police on Friday arraigned a house maid, Valerie Okwor, in a Grade I Area Court Nyanya, Abuja, for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth N3 million.
Okwor, who is 25 years old, is charged with theft.

Prosecution counsel, Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the defendant was employed by Ms. Anna-Maria Jojozi of No 8, Rhine Street Maitama, Abuja, as a househelp.
Nwaforaku alleged that the defendant stole a gold wristwatch, earrings and necklaces all valued at N3 million.
He said during police investigation, it was discovered that the defendant committed the offence and all efforts to recover the stolen jewellery have failed.
The case was reported at Maitama Police Station by the complainant, Jojozi.
The offence he said, contravenes the provisions of Sections 289 of the Penal Code.
The defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The judge, Abdullahi Ogedengbe, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1.5 million with two sureties each in like sum.
Ogedengbe adjourned the case until July 21 for hearing.
