Lagos Court varies Justice Ajumogobia, Obla’s bail conditions
A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja on Thursday ordered variation into the bail condition earlier granted Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of a Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin, and Mr. Godwin Obla, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
Justice Hakeem Oshodi gave the order after listening to both counsels on the application for the variation of the bail conditions initiated by both Justice Ajumogobia and Obla.
Justice Oshodi held that he had no choice than to exercise his discretionary powers in favour of the duo in view of the fact that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) did not raise any objection to the application for bail variation.
The trial judge therefore granted the request of Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, alongside Obla to carry out a N20m bail bond with the Chief Registrar of the Lagos State High Court instead of cash deposit of the sum.
While directing the defendants to swear to affidavits of means, Justice Oshodi also declared that the prayer of the defendants asking for an order mandating the EFCC to immediately surrender their passport to the court’s registrar was “not well founded” because the passports were already in the custody of the court.
It would be recalled that the EFCC had arraigned Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia and former prosecutor of the commission, Obla (SAN).
The duo were docked on a 30-counts charge that touches on bribery, conspiracy, unlawful enrichment, and giving false information before Justice Oshodi.
The defendants had pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against them by EFCC.
