KWASSA, APCON partner to curb placing illegal bill boards

Kwara State Signage and Advertisement Agency, (KWASSA) is partnering with Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) to curb placing of illegal bill boards during the campaign for 2019 general elections. Alhaji Hammed Olufadi, Director-General of KWASSA, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Wednesday. He expressed concern that politicians in the state had been violating signage and advertisement law by erecting bill boards, banners and pasting posters in the state, illegally. The director-general noted that politicians in the state also used their thugs to place illegal bill boards, banners and posters in unauthorised areas thereby causing confusion and tension in the area. He said politicians also failed to pay the necessary fees to the agency and refused to seek advice on where to place bill boards. “They just go to any location with hate speech inscriptions and paste anything as directed by their political godfathers. “We don’t have problem with religious, commercial and cooperate bodies because they follow due process by seeking for permission unlike the politicians who disrespect the law,” he said. The KWASSA boss, therefore, advised politicians to guide their utterances and learn to campaign with decorum. He, however, warned political parties to desist from destroying opposition bill boards in order not to cause social crisis. Olufadi stressed that KWASSA was not partisan, adding that he would ensure that the agency make Kwara a better and attractive place.
