Kidnap: IGP order masterminds to apologize to ex-female varsity boss
The Inspector General of the police, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has ordered the masterminds of the kidnap of the former female Vice Chancellor of Rivers state owned of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Professor Rosemund Green-Osahogulu, to apologize to her through publicized advertisements in national newspapers and to take any other credible steps to remedy the damages done to her public reputation and the emotional distress she suffered in the hands of her kidnappers
Professor Green-Osahogulu, told newsmen in Abuja on Monday that the IGP gave the directive through the officer in charge of IRT, ACP Abba Kyari who led the team deployed to Port-Harcourt to arrest ‘’Urban Gorilla’’, at a meeting conveyed to parade the suspects and their masterminds.
According to Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT),the arrested top commander of the Niger Delta Avengers, simply identified as Anthony Pepple and popularly known as Urban Gorilla is alleged to be responsible for a long list of kidnap cases in Port Harcourt and its environs. His arrest is coming weeks after the police authorities declared him wanted and launched a manhunt for him.
Top on his list of victims were, Dr. Silas Nwachukwu, a Surgeon and Director of Capino Pharmacy; Mrs. Joy Enuvie Akpokobje, Director of Tejod Pharmacy; Pharmacist Onomake Monday, Director of Larmack Pharmacy who was picked along NTA- Uniport road; Dr. Patience Iduh, a Laboratory Scientist with NNPC Port Harcourt kidnapped in Elelewon; Professor Rosemund Dienye Green Osahogulu, the then Vice Chancellor of Ignatuis Ajuru University of Education Port Harcourt, who was kidnapped while driving along Iwofe road.
A police source explained that he was picked up through intelligence gathering analysis by the Technical Intelligence Unit (IIU) of the police to ascertain his location in Port Harcourt. Investigations further revealed that on April 1, 2017 at about 3pm, the officer in charge of IRT, ACP Abba Kyari deployed one of his teams to Port-Harcourt where Urban Gorilla was arrested.
The masterminds who occasioned the kidnap and vigorously campaigned that the Professor faked the incident include the estranged husband of the professor, Joshua Dele Osahogulu, who said that the kidnap was not only faked, but intended to defraud the University, some senior management staff of the Institution that orchestrated the falsehood and subjected the former VC to public ridicule, and the Chairman of the institution’s branch of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Dr. Ugochukwu K. Agi, who spearheaded varsity revolt and protest even when invited by the police team to appear before it.
The arrested Kidnap kingpins not only identified these masterminds, but provided graphic details about their role in funding and providing needed logistics for the saga.
