In just 2 years, Gov Lalong has borrowed more than N42bn with no tangible results -PDP

The Plateau state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the Governor Lalong administration in the state of borrowing over N42 billion in just two years without any physical infrastructure to show for it.

The party stated this on Sunday in a press statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary, John Akans, after its State Executive Council meeting held at the PDP Secretariat, in Jos the state capital.

The statement reads, “the Peoples Democratic Party, Plateau state chapter, has condemned the retrogressive actions of Governor Simon Lalong which have left the state underdeveloped.

“In just two years, the APC administration has borrowed more than N42bn with no tangible results to show; and the Governor has not been able to articulate and enunciate clear economic and social policies that will leave marked improvements in the lives of the people of the state, rather, the governor’s lack of vision has turned the Government House into an exclusive club where impunity, imposition and total disregard for constitutionalism have become the order of the day.

Responding, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Mark Longyen, said “there’s the need to understand the difference between the job of a government in power and an opposition party; while the ruling party is focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people, the opposition is busy doing everything possible to distract the former’s attention with all kinds of fictitious, imaginary unsubstantiated claims because it has no job to do; having been driven out of power, PDD has in the last two years been engaging in this diversionary tactics as its stock in trade due to jobless.

What is wrong in government’s decision to take loans with which to go ahead with and complete most of the multi billion Naira projects that were inherited from the preceding PDP government? Don’t forget the PDP government bequeathed to us a suffocating total debt of over N220 billion with a litany of abandoned or uncompleted projects.

For the records, let me outline some of the inherited projects that these funds were judiciously channeled into, most of which have since been completed, while others are ongoing, in spite of the paucity of funds.

These are: “The Secretariat Flyover Bridge was completed, The Plateau Hospital Roundabout -Dogon Karfe Link Road was completed, The Plateau Geographical Information System (PLAGIS) was completed, The Jos Metropolitan Roads project was completed, The Plateau State University (PLASU) campus road network project was completed, PLASU’s Multimillion Naira Ultramodern e-Library was equally completed, The College of Health Technology Zawan Multimillion Naira e-Library was also completed, The General Hospital Riyom was also completed, The Kanke General Hospital is now completed, General Hospital Mabudi is near completion and The Multibillion Naira Olympic Size Zaria Road Stadium is near completion, and numerous other multi billion Naira projects at various stages of completion, all of which are visible to the blind and even audible to the deaf and dumb”, he said.
