Industrial action paralyzes activities at Kano orthopaedic hospital

Activities at the National Orthopedic Dala-Kano came to a halt early Wednesday morning as a result of indefinite strike embarked upon by staffs of the hospital.
The workers at the hospital were left with no choice than to embark on the industrial action to demand the immediate payment of their three months salary which they said is yet to be paid, and that every effort made to get their pay proved abortive even with a recent one week warning strike, hence the need to embark on an indefinite strike to emphasize on their demands.
Patients whom made it to the hospital in the cold and hazy hammatern condition were left stranded as most of them were given a new date of appointment while other few ones whom were lucky were attended to by the few doctors and nurses that were available.
Efforts to speak to the hospital incharge was not successful as the management and the various heads of other department were said to be in a closed-door meeting.
Some persons who spoke with Dailytimes on anonymity explained that they can no longer cope with life as they have been thrown into debt as a result of the non-payment of their salary that some staff ‘s marriages have been affected at the moment as they can no longer provide for their families. They called on relevant authorities concerned to look into their plight and do something.
Industrial actions in Nigeria particularly in the health sector has been described by many as an unfortunate occurrence which the government must do all it could to prevent it in order to save lives in need of medical attention.
