Imo PDP suffers another setback as Muruako, others defect to APC

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the weekend  suffered another major setback as one of its chieftains and acting chairman, Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), Prince  Victor Muruako,  defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside his supporters in Ihiagwa Community of Owerri West Council Area of the state.

His supporters who defected with him were received at his country home by the party’s chairman in Owerri West LGA, Charles Ohiri, a commissioner designate in the state government, Hon. Noble Atulegwu and other APC bigwigs in the area.

At the APC state Secretariat, Owerri where he was officially received into the party by the party’s state deputy chairman, Ugochukwu Nzekwe, who represented the state chairman of the party,  Prince Marcellinus Nlemigbo, Muruako, said he was leaving the PDP for the first time since he joined it on  16th of June, 1998.

According to him, he joined the ruling party because Governor Hope Uzodinma had shown love and has not been discriminating since he became the governor of the state in January.

He said, “Even those we worked for (during the elections) did not take us as serious as Governor Hope Uzodinma is taking us now. It is my promise to you that we won’t use this broom to oppress people, but to bring development and prosperity to our people.”

Muruako promised to bring to bear his political experience  to lift the party in Owerri federal constituency and the state . He advised the party leadership to be fair in its dealings and carry everybody along.

The party’s deputy chairman, Ugochukwu Nzekwe described Muruako as a consummate politician, adding that the APC was happy to have him in the party.

Nzekwe disclosed that Muruako was among the few individuals the party had penciled down to approach if he did not join the APC.

The APC chief said other defecting politicians had come with a list of what the party should do for them, adding however that Muruako came with his entourage to support the governor and his administration.

While telling him that he made the right choice by joining the APC, Nzekwe gave assurances  that the governor would carry everybody along.
