Imo Airport on Fire As Passengers and Staff Run For Their Dear Lives

It was a bad afternoon on Monday, April 8, 2019, by 2:00pm when passengers and Staff at the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport were thrown into panic as fire broke out on the arrival section of the Airport.

The cause of the fire was not known as at the time of this report but a source at the Airport said there was an going renovation at the arrival hall, which was affected by the fire outbreak.

Daily Times gathered that the incident which lasted for more than one hour, could not be stopped until when the efforts from men of the Fire service and airport workers were combined to quench the fire.

The source told Daily Times that, “It was a mysterious fire outbreak, it happened at the arrival department of the airport where the authority was carrying out renovation work, if not for the arrival of men of the fire service, it would have cost bigger havoc”.

The fire outbreak that started about 2:00pm lasted to 3:02pm, it would have damaged equipment and infrastructure but the rescue work assisted in savaging the situation.

When Daily Times contacted the Police Public Relation Officer (P.P.R.O) Imo state, he said he was aware of the fire incident and the fire has been put off, adding that it did not stop any operation at the airport, as two different flights have landed same day, after the fire was put off.
