Igbo Skit Maker Reverses Stance, Now Advocates for Protests

Chris Exola Nwachukwu, a well-known skit maker famous for his controversial videos, has dramatically changed his position on political protests, surprising many.
On February 20, 2024, a video featuring Nwachukwu and his friends went viral. In it, they celebrated the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration and advised Igbos against participating in any protests. Nwachukwu stated emphatically, “No Igbo man or woman should join the upcoming protest. We warned you before the election, but you didn’t listen. Now, face the consequences,” with mocking songs playing in the background as the group dined.
However, Nwachukwu has now retracted his previous statement. In a new video, he urges all citizens, including Igbos, to join the Revolution Now protest scheduled for August 1-10, 2024. “After much reflection and seeing the current state of our nation, I believe it’s important for every Nigerian to unite and make our voices heard,” he stated. “I now call on all my Igbo brothers, friends, and followers to join the upcoming protest. Our collective strength can bring about the change we need.”
A spokesperson further commented, “We are no longer standing on Tinubu’s mandate, leg don dey pain us.”
Nwachukwu’s reversal has elicited mixed reactions from the public. Some have praised his change of heart, while others question his sincerity. Nonetheless, the call for unity and participation in the protest is clear.
This shift highlights the growing frustration among Nigerians with the current administration. The protest aims to address issues such as economic hardship, corruption, and lack of security, and is seen as a crucial step in voicing the populace’s concerns and demanding accountability from the government.
The upcoming protest is expected to draw significant attention and participation nationwide. Organizers hope this united front will pressure the government to address critical issues affecting the nation.
The response from citizens, particularly with influential figures like Nwachukwu advocating for participation, will be pivotal in determining the protest’s impact. His retraction underscores the importance of unity and collective action in the fight for a better Nigeria.
