Igbo language: Group advised S’ East leaders to support Okorocha

A pressure group, Coalition of Ideato Nations, has urged Igbo stakeholders, particularly the South East governors to support the Imo State governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, in his quest to promote Igbo language in both primary and secondary schools in the zone.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the group, Chief John Paul Ochemba, gave the advice, on Wednesday, in Owerri, while fielding questions with newsmen, said that all hands must be on deck to ensure that Igbo language was made compulsory in schools as being championed by Okorocha.
He regretted that a majority of Igbo families were unable to speak the Igbo language in their various homes and gatherings, stressing that same cannot be said of the Yoruba and Hausa people.
He, therefore, called on Igbo leaders not to play politics with the current campaign to promote Igbo language to save it from into extinction.
Ochemba remarked that, “Governments of the South East zone should make Igbo language compulsory in schools and ensure that those offering Igbo language for external examination should be given some incentives.”
He urged the people of the state to give peace a chance in order to attract foreign investors. He dismissed the critics of Okorocha administration, stressing that Okorocha had made giant strides in area of infrastructure development.
