I did not say Plateau regret voting Lalong as governor, says Tapgun

Former Governor of Plateau State, Ambassador. Fidelis Tapgun, has refuted a statement, which quoted him to have said that, Plateau people regretted voting Simon Lalong as governor of the state.
Tapgun, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), strongly supported Lalong who contested under the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 general elections.
Tapgun told newsmen in Jos that what he said at the inauguration of the PDP reconciliation committee in Jos, was misinterpreted and quoted out of context.
He said that what he said was that he apologised to his supporters for voting against PDP, which he said was as a result of the exigencies of the time.
Tapgun said, “What I said was that we all have sinned and we need forgiveness for voting against our party. At no time in that occasion did anybody mention Lalong or APC. Lalong is my son and I was largely responsible for bringing him to power. For goodness sake, if I have any opinion about his performance, I will simply walk up to him and tell him where he is derailing.”
He added, “I know that in the performance of their job, journalists are guided by the dictum that while facts are sacred, opinion is free. So a journalist has the right to interpret any statement after his own fashion, but I should warn that it should not be out of context with what the speaker intended to say. In this case, this was what happened. The newsman simply assumed that this was what I intended to say and went haywire with, but that was not my opinion in all intent and purposes”, he said.
