Hunted by tradition, unable to seek help from police, gay man recount ordeal

A young man Olawale 0gunsanya is in serious trouble over his alleged participation in a gay party that went sour in the Ikorodu area of Lagos resulting in his being beaten up along side his partners in crime, causing bodily injuries.

Eye witness account said that Olawale 0gunsanya reportedly got entangled with an old gay lover now in an after party sex rump in a hotel in the traditional puritan enclave of the legendary Lagos enclave that gravely forbids same sex relationship.

It was learnt that Mr 0gunsanya had started kissing and expressing love towards his gay partner, unknown to them that they were being monitored by a cult leader and an in-law prompting them to break into his hotel room where they were caught red handed having sex.

Having discovered what was going on between the two gay lovers, the cult leader promptly raised an alarm that drew the attention of distraught neighbours who descended on them with clubs and other dangerous weapons and repeatedly shouting, abomination!!!.

The cry of abomination reportedly rented the air as the serenity of the night gave way to confusion and rage as more persons got attracted to the crime scene and joined in the beating.

Despite having been severely beaten and bruised 0gunsanya was reportedly dragged before the elders of the area to perform certain rituals meant to cleanse the land of the abominable act which could have severe consequences on the lives of innocent people if not exorcised.

The gay man is expected to present the atonement items which include, a live spotless white cow, 1000 cowrie shells, seven bottles of red palm oil, 100 pieces of kola nuts, 14 cloves of alligator pepper etc, on the presumption that he’s guilty as charged.

He was said to have denied any wrong doing, but he is said to be living in perpetual fear as a result of threats from his in-law and cult leader, urging him to either own up to the offence or be harmed leading to his going into hiding.

Meanwhile, 0gunsanya is unable to report the gang beating suffered in the hands of the natives to the police because of their involvement in same sex relationship, a practice that has been criminalized in Nigeria under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act 2013 that prescribed a 14 years inprisoment for offenders.
