Hope for our future: Prince Ayoade Adewopo implores Nigerians on 57th Independence

As Nigeria celebrates her 57th independence anniversary today, Sunday, October 1, 2017, Nigerians have been called upon to stand up to the present challenges and raise the bar of hope for a brighter future as dreamed by the founding fathers of the Country . Prince Ayoade Adewopo, a PDP gubernatorial aspirant in Osun State made the call in his goodwill message to Nigerians on Independence Day.

His words:

Independence did not come without sacrifice. Despite tribal or language differences, our founding fathers spoke in one voice, demanded a free state and hoped for a brighter future.

For many, today is a day to be thankful for the sacrifices given by those who fought for Nigeria’s independence and so it is a day of immense pride and thankfulness.

We have gone through civil war and bloodshed to remain united as one indivisible nation. I implore fellow Nigerians to remember the sacrifice of those that laid down their lives for a greater Nigeria.

I have visited some great countries, and I am partial in believing that Nigeria is still the country with the greatest potential on the face of the earth.

However, we are at a historic crossroad, we are facing economic depression, social unrest, tribal rivalries, issues of security of persons and property, increasing pauperization of the masses, degraded infrastructure of power, transportation, educational and health facilities, pervasive corruption and excessive greed, self-seeking amongst the three tiers of government, unresponsive governance and growing pessimism amongst the vast majority of the country’s population.

We have gone from a strong economy to a weak economy, our oil resources, notwithstanding. All the fine documents from Vision 2010 to 2020, have failed to transform our economy. We have gone from being the largest economy in Africa to a depressed economy.

In the face of this discord, I implore all Nigerians to tackle these onerous tasks with uniting hope for a brighter future.

Any leader who will make the difference must rise above himself, his ethnic proclivity and group dictates to put Nigerians to work for Nigeria.

We must stand up for one another, stand up for our future, demand for a leader that must reinvent the Nigerian patriotism and passion.

We must not take our independence for granted. We must do our bit to make Nigeria a better place, a legacy to live for and a legacy to die for.

We must demand on this occasion that hope is restored to Nigeria, hope for our future.

Let us all rise and salute our Nation on this auspicious day.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Prince Ayoade Adewopo
