Group sensitises Kano district heads on COVID-19 prevention

A group of prominent individuals in Kano under the aegis of Kano Against COVID-19 on Sunday organised a day sensitisation workshop for district heads on ways of curbing the spread of virus in the state.

Leader of the group, Prof. Tabi’u Muhammad, said that the workshop is aimed at improving the traditional leaders’ efforts in curtailing the spread of the disease in their respective communities.

“If the traditional leaders know more on the necessary measures in fighting the spread of the disease, they will also enlighten their followers on such preventive measures.

“Our next target is to also sensitise village and ward heads across the state so that people at grassroots will get to know more about the pandemic and the preventive measures,” he said.

According to him, community people always listen to their leaders, hence the need for the training to avoid community spread of the disease.

Muhammad said that if the public could follow the preventive measures, it would bring about reduction in the spread of the disease in the communities.

“We have contributed so much to the various ways of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, especially by sensitising religious leaders and journalists on the virus.

“We also intervened when the health workers in the state deserted their places of work over the shortage of personnel protective equipment and other issues.

“The shortage of the personnel protective equipment then had caused no fewer than 50 health workers to contract the disease, but our intervention brought about the end of the issue,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Bayero, commended the group for organising the workshop.

The emir represented by the Madakin Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nabahani, said that the workshop would contribute a lot in reducing community transmission of the disease.

He expressed the emirate council’s willingness to continue to give all the necessary supports in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that the disease was real.

Bayero appealed to the people of the state to always adhere to the preventive measures prescribed by health professionals, especially the use of face masks and maintenance of social distancing.
