Group laments over 2000 displaced Ekiti residents

A group under the aegis of Ado New Age Coalition (ANAC), has lamented over alleged displacement of about 5000 Ekiti residents by Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose without compensation.

The group in a release signed by its chairman, Chief Temitope Fatai, and made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti lamented that demolition of houses by Fayose administration across parts of Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti state and other towns and communities, have displaced nearly 5000 residents.

They alleged that the situation had created serious humanitarian crisis in the state, resulting in sundry insecurity challenges.

Governor Fayose had, about two years ago, demolished houses and shops, especially in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, to facilitate his urban beautification and renewal efforts, a move that was condemned by sections of the community.

The group lamented that many of the affected residents were in deep economic crisis arising from homelessness and joblessness, while their family members, including wives and children, suffer extreme difficulties as a result of their displacement from homes and businesses.

Disclosing plans to sue both governor Fayose and the state government for embarking on what it called “unplanned, unneeded, and extremely disrupting demolition”, the group explained it had commenced collating list of those affected by the exercise for possible supports, noting that the affected people should be ready to submit their petitions soon after the election.
